Scholarships to be awarded during Dream Big – Engineering our World local movie premiere

YCE, Inc. announced today that the company will be rolling out the “green carpet” as the exclusive host for the local premiere of Dream Big – Engineering Our World on Sunday, February 26th, 2pm at the Collection’s Century Riverpark 16 in Oxnard. In conjunction with the movie, YCE will be awarding two scholarships to local tri-counties female students pursuing degrees in engineering or agri-business (application deadline: 1/31/17). Dream Big is a HUGE film. Literally. With extraordinary visuals that will play on the theater’s giant XD screen, Dream Big reveals the compassion and creativity that drive engineers to create better lives for people and a more sustainable future for us all. From the Great Wall of China and the world’s tallest buildings to underwater robots and a solar car race across Australia, Dream Big celebrates the human ingenuity behind engineering marvels. Brought to us by MacGillivray Freeman, the creative minds behind Everest and National Parks Adventure, the Dream Big local premiere hosted by YCE, Inc. is sure to please with a special VIP pre-event, guest swag bags, “green carpet” photo opportunities and an announcement of two scholarship recipients!   

 

In coordination with the local Dream Big showing, YCE, Inc. will be awarding scholarships to two deserving local female college students (or those entering college this fall). The Dream Big Scholarships have been designed to support women pursuing agricultural and engineering degrees, tying into the movie, which serves to motivate a new generation of female engineers, including agricultural engineering and agri-business fields of study. Scholarship applications are due by Tuesday, January 31st and can be found here.

 

YCE, Inc.’s Founder and President, Marta Alvarez, PE/PLS/MASCE, is a proactive advocate who strongly believes in giving back to her community and to the fields of engineering and agriculture. She’s especially interested in helping girls. “There are endless possibilities for women in civil engineering, land surveying and agri-business,” stated Alvarez. “I’m excited to be able to recognize and award scholarships to female students pursuing these degrees.”

 

The Society of Women Engineers 2016 Engineer of the Year, Marta Alvarez was named one of three national winners in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Dream Big contest. As an honoree she was awarded the exclusive rights to host this local showing of the Dream Big movie premiere. “It’s thrilling to host this larger-than-life engineering film for the tri-counties,” commented Alvarez.
