YEMMA Consulting Engineers’ Marta Alvarez earns scholarship to attend American Agri-Women Legislative Fly-In in Washington DC

Alvarez continues to collect awards for her engineering expertise and leadership

YEMMA Consulting Engineers (YCE, Inc.) announced today that its Founder and President, Marta Alvarez, PE/LS/MASCE, has returned from Washington DC where she joined fellow agricultural advocates as part of the American Agri-Women Legislative Fly-In. Alvarez was honored with one of two scholarships awarded by the California Women for Agriculture (CWA) to join over 50 representatives nationally for this important legislative fly-in.

Alvarez and her peers from across the country met with Senators and members of Congress as well as with representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Agriculture to discuss current agricultural issues including sustainable practices, the Clean Water Act, nutrient recycling and more. “California had over 10% representation during these meetings. This just demonstrates how important California agriculture is to our Nation,” stated Marta Alvarez, civil engineer and Founder/President of YCE, Inc. Marta is laser focused on helping the local farming community with their agri-businesses by educating them on the environmentally appropriate way to engineer grading, run-off and drainage, among other sustainable engineering practices.

Marta Alvarez and YCE are having a banner year. In January, Alvarez was selected by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) San Buenaventura chapter as their local nominee for the national “2016 Engineer of the Year” award presented at the National Engineer's Banquet held at the Ronald Reagan Library during Engineer's Week. And in February, Alvarez was named one of three national winners in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) “Dream Big” contest. As an honoree she will be hosting the local showing of the iMAX “Dream Big” movie premiere in February 2017.

Additionally, YCE was recently featured on Ventura Sustainable TV as a Ventura Certified Green Business for their environmental practices that include recycling, water and energy conservation, and use of eco-friendly products. “We've been sustainable for many years, before it was fashionable. After all, this is the only Earth we have,” commented Alvarez.
